I've often envied people who grew up in the same place, had childhood friends they shared youth, school and adulthood with...Lifelong connections.
We moved. Reassigned or relocated every two or three years. And traveled. And lived overseas.
Today I saw the benefit of that lifestyle. We went to the Steve McCurry Exhibition in downtown Zürich. It was quite emotional! Not only was the work world class, but the places he had photographed were familiar to me. I had lived in India, and traveled to Kashmir, Chennai, Bombay, Kolkata, Agra... We had stayed on a houseboat in Dal Lake in Srinagar, Kashmir; an immeasurably beautiful now mired in conflict. Everything evoked memories of visits, places, people, and experiences - of a nomad lifestyle.
The exhibit is at MAAG Halle, Zurich through 20 October, 2021. The screenshots here are mobile phone shots of a few of the pieces on exhibit. It is a wonderful exhibit.
