The rule of curves

The rule of curves

The Zurich Law Library rendered in warm sepia — layer upon layer of curved balconies sweeping upward in perfect geometric progression, the architecture of order made visible. Shot from below, the image transforms a working legal library into something closer to sculpture, or perhaps music — those repeating curved forms like a sustained note held across multiple floors. Switzerland has always understood that precision and beauty are not opposites. This image is the proof. Designed by architect Santiago Calatrava.
The structure is six elliptical, tiered galleries that appear to float, arranged around a central, light-filled, lens-shaped atrium.
The wood is a light-colored maple wood.
