The Fishermen
Wrightsville Beach on a foggy morning, and the world has been reduced to almost nothing — a pale diagonal of sand, the ghost of a breaking wave, and two surf fishermen standing in the white with their rods planted in the sand beside them. The fog has done what the best photography does: removed the unnecessary until only what matters remains. Shot in black and white, the image sits somewhere between photography and ink wash painting, between document and dream. For anyone who has ever stood at the ocean's edge in fog, this image is a memory as much as a photograph.
