The Sentinel

The Sentinel

Banks Channel at Wrightsville Beach on a morning when the water forgot how to move. Four weathered pilings rise from a surface so still it holds a perfect reflection, sky and water merging into a single field of soft blue-gray. At the top of the tallest piling, a bird stands watch — the only vertical life in a horizontal world. This is coastal North Carolina at its most contemplative, stripped of color and noise until only the essential remains. In a bedroom or quiet space it functions almost like a window onto silence itself.
